Refit
Transformation
Motor Yacht p e g a s u s has undergone a complete transformation following an extensive refit at its “place of birth”, the world famous Feadship shipyard in the Netherlands. Over a period of 10 months, the yacht has been meticulously refurbished both inside and out. Super Yacht Times describes the rejuvenated vessel as “a longer and even more luxurious megayacht that is attuned to the requirements of her new owner to a phenomenal degree”.
There has been an extension of all three decks. The hull length at waterline has benefited from an increase of four meters, and the sun deck by nearly six, bringing it to an astonishing 11.75 meters long at its aft part. The new LWL is 47.68 meters (156’ 5”) and LOA now stands at 52.25 meters (171’5”), pushing it into the next category of motor yachts, with all the additional comfort and luxury that entails.
These additions bring the total exterior area of p e g a s u s to 265 square meters. The yacht now boasts four outdoor dining and lounging areas; the “Pool Deck” with a full bar and grill; the “Lounge Deck”, which can accommodate up to 22 guests for dinner; the “Main Deck” with large main dining table and aft smaller one; and the “Beach Club”, where guests can enjoy early morning breakfast or private candlelit meals on the pontoon, suspended just centimeters above the water.
The massive 630 square meters of interior space, has been redesigned and updated for a warm, modern and stylish look, with all-new entertainment and lighting systems.
Large windows throughout mean the interiors are bathed in natural light and guests can enjoy panoramic views of the ocean, wherever they might be. Revel in the morning sunshine streaming into your cabin, or kick back and marvel at the spectacular sunsets from the Lido Deck salon.
Square windows overlooking the Main Deck enhance this feeling of space and light, while screens and blinds activated at the touch of a button ensure the utmost privacy for guests.
Behind the scenes, the safety, navigation and engine room systems have all been updated to meet present day standards.
The new p e g a s u s represents a pinnacle of design, where style meets functionality. It is design that sets this yacht apart, with its bold, individual furniture pieces, bespoke lighting and fresh, new layout.
A host of designers have come together to realise the owner’s vision. Chester Jones, a famous British designer, was responsible for some key pieces of furniture for the Main Deck Salon. He celebrates the vision he helped achieve. “p e g a s u s, in previous lives had been originally fitted out in the “Chinese taste”, or converted to a floating “Texan Casino” with hard core entertainment in mind.
“Now, with Dimitri as an irrepressible driving force, this boat has finally achieved considerable elegance. The combination of modern furniture, rugs on planked decks, reconfigured lighting and carefully chosen modern art, make it a paragon of its kind”.
The owner’s vision was for designs that used polished stainless steel and shagreen to give the interiors an early twentieth century glamour. These are set against quieter pieces of furniture in black American walnut, waxed to a polished finish.
The carpets were designed by Sandy Jones especially for the boat to complement the furniture. Made in Konya, a traditional centre for carpet making for over 1000 years, they have the subtlety of ‘abrash’ with a modern twist.
Giving the yacht a truly European feel, there are evident contributions from Italian designer Romeo Sozzi, Christian Liaigre of France, and Tresserra of Spain. All three are personally favoured by the owner for their ability to create designer pieces with everyday functionality.
Lighting specialist Richard Aldridge has developed a system of lamps, backlit art and overhead lighting to create the perfect atmosphere for any given occasion. Best known for illuminating the Louvre in Paris and London’s British Museum, Richard is uniquely equipped to light up the extensive collection of artworks on board.
He says the lighting system was designed “to give the interior a fresh daytime feel, with the ability, at the push of a button, to create more intimate moods, either by highlighting the numerous and varied works of art or by softly illuminating the furniture to help the guests enjoy a tranquil and relaxing evening environment”.
This sumptuous furnishing acts as a backdrop to the owner’s collection of post-cubist sculptures, bas-reliefs and photographs, which together create the most dynamic of interiors.m/y p e g a s u s
MAIN DECK
Walking on to the Main Deck, you will first notice the flowing lines of the interior. Burmese teak wood floors run the length of the yacht and fresh new furniture and textiles give the vessel a warm and inviting feel.
The atrium is home to a dramatic abstract statue, over four meters high, inspired and designed for p e g a s u s by Greek sculptor Sophia Vari. A well-known painter and sculptress, she creates pieces firmly rooted in traditional Mediterranean culture, with references to elements of cubism and surrealism.
Moving past the atrium into the Dining Room, there is a new round table, which comfortably seats 12 people. Wood-panelled cabinets have been added to this room to house the owner’s personal collections of custom-made china, crystal, and silverware.
MAIN AFT DECK
A total of 30 square meters have been added to the aft “Main Deck”, plus a host of gadgets, to make your dining and relaxation even more enjoyable. Electric windscreens can be activated at the flick of a switch to ensure the utmost privacy when dining in port, and preserve a haven of calm on breezy nights.
The secluded aft table can also be lowered to become a large lounger so you have ample room to relax and drink in the scenery, when not indulging in a delicious meal on deck.
Just around the corner, at the port passageway, you will find a beautifully secluded spot in a hammock suspended just above the sea. Here you can rest your eyes and fall asleep to the sounds of the ocean.
LIDO DECK
Moving up to the “Lounge Deck” deck there is a new al fresco dining area, which can seat up to 22 guests. Sections of this large table can be removed and the tables lowered, to create a cocktail-style arrangement, serviced by the circular bar. Expanded by 20 square meters, this deck is now fully equipped for dining, lounging and, of course, partying.
Enter forward from the doors either side of the bar and you will come upon “Lido Deck Salon”, with wood-planked floors and vibrant upholstery. Additional cabinets have been designed to house new Plasma televisions and a state-of-the-art entertainment system. If you enjoy a more traditional form of entertainment, you can try your talents at the ivory Yamaha piano.
SUN DECK
The Sun Deck underwent the largest extension of all. Its aft section has been transformed from housing jet skis and tenders to a wonderful “Pool Deck,” increased by 36 square meters and now measuring an astonishing 11.75 meters in length!
Up the stairs from the “Lido Deck”, a glass wall and floor have been installed to enclose the gym. State-of-the-art PrivaLight technology means you can be in total privacy at a flick of a switch, when using the Trixter Bike, Kinesis machine, or the Power Plate.
A massage table is also available, should you wish to unwind after a workout or at the end of a long day playing in the sun. Outside the gym, forward, you can choose between the soothing jets of the Jacuzzi, or an invigorating lavender salt bath in the Hydrotherapy Spa.
Stepping outside onto the aft portion of the sun deck, you will discover the “Pool Deck” with plush sunning cushions and a glass-bottomed saltwater pool where you can cool off. Enjoy fresh grilled calamari and vegetables on the ceramic grill just steps away from the pool, under the welcome shade of the full-length sun awning. A freshwater shower is nearby for you to rinse off before treating yourself to a cocktail at the bar.
To help you unwind before heading to bed, watch a late night movie under the stars on the 55-inch outdoor plasma TV.sun deck awning
CABIN DECK
Finally down to the guest cabins, where new silk carpets, wall fabrics, and leather ceilings have been installed to lighten the entire area. All cabins now feature flat screen televisions for you to enjoy the new kaleidoscope library, with 450 movies to choose from!
Just beyond the sliding door at the end of the “Cabin Deck” hallway is the all-new “Beach Club”. This area has a fully equipped bar, freshwater shower, dining and lounge area plus a four by five meter swimming platform with sun awning. From here you can board the jet skis, or simply relax having an ouzo and a snack whilst playing a game of tavli! A breakfast of croissants and coffee will be served here for early risers.
There is also a side-boarding platform, which is great when you’re coming in with a jet ski, or just hopping on to the tender to explore the surrounding area.
BEHIND THE SCENES
In addition to the structural and cosmetic changes onboard p e g a s u s, there have been a host of other modifications behind the scenes.
Pegasus is now home to three tenders. “Pegasaki”, or little Pegasus, is the newest and largest of the three, at a stunning 29 feet in length. Designed by a young Dutch couple, the tender is incredibly sleek, with luxurious upholstery in leather and Burmese teak. To lift this beautiful boat, a new 3,500 kg crane has been installed on the Sun Deck.
Built to highest specifications, “Pegasaki” zips along at 35+ knots leaving other tenders in her wake. Take her out for an afternoon cruise, explore forgotten bays and discover out of reach coves for a candlelit dinner; or escape on a romantic getaway, as she has ample room for overnight stays.
Pegasus is also equipped with two new Nauticas, including an orange, SOLAS rescue boat stowed at the bow.
A new Audio/Visual system has been installed, with Crestron panels throughout, so you can select the music you want, set the lights, and even control the roman blinds, from any part of the boat.
Finally, to keep your business going or to do some online shopping, Wi-Fi internet is accessible throughout the boat and new wireless telephones are located in every part of the vessel.
Last but not least, there have been upgrades to the operating systems of the vessel. We have a new Satellite System, new Radars, GPS, and Night Vision; as well as colour security cameras installed around the vessel.
Extensive work to the engine room has been undertaken to increase the performance of the main engines, generators and auxiliary machinery. These help keep your shower hot, the AC cold and – most importantly – the surrounding sea clean!
As part of our mission to be environmentally friendly, a new garbage control system has been implemented onboard. All garbage is now separated and goes into a special freezer, to be disposed of appropriately at port.
